Taiwan wants more localised Apache maintenance

The Republic of China Army (ROCA) operates 29 AH-64E Apache Guardians, but the military is seeking ways of reducing a burgeoning maintenance bill, one that will cost about $30 million in the year ahead.

The aircraft are well beyond their warranty period, so Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) must foot the annual repair and maintenance bill.

According to local media reports citing an anonymous Taiwanese military official, the Apache fleet’s maintenance costs were NT$323 million ($10.4 million) in FY 2018, but this figure is expected to almost triple in FY 2019.
