BAE Systems has been awarded $40 million worth of contracts by the US Army for its third-generation (Gen3) Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). The orders are funded under a recently awarded $496 million, three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to deliver up to 1,300 Gen3 systems.

In its latest Gen3 configuration, the CMWS provides an enhanced capability for aircrews to locate and protect against infrared guided threats. It also includes hostile fire indication to detect and evade small arms fire and new data recording capabilities for detailed post-mission analysis.

The contract will see BAE Systems deliver CMWS hardware and provide systems engineering, software, and logistics support services for both the CMWS and the Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasure system.

Bill Staib, director of Threat Management Solutions, BAE Systems, said: ‘These latest contracts build on nearly 10 years of experience providing the US Army with thousands of aircraft survivability systems that have been integrated on more than 45 different platform types. As a result of these contracts, we’ll continue to deliver Gen3 systems in support of US Army and foreign military sale requirements over the next two years.’

This order brings US Army orders under the IDIQ to approximately $90 million since September 2013.

The Gen3 systems will be fielded to US Army platforms over the next two years, and has already begun with in-theatre installations on Apache, Kiowa, and Black Hawk aircraft stationed in Afghanistan.
