Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
Leonardo has announced the construction of a new Helicopter Support Centre in Itapevi near São Paulo, Brazil. The centre will ‘enhance service capabilities in South America’, the company stated.
The centre is scheduled for completion in Q4 2020.
The support centre will cover an area of 79,000m². It will host new maintenance hangars, bonded warehouses, workshops and a dedicated heliport. Furthermore, it will provide customers with spares, maintenance, product support and engineering services for helicopters such as the AW109, AW119, AW139, AW169 and AW189.
More than 190 Leonardo helicopters are in operation in Brazil for functions such as law enforcement and naval missions.
According to a 14 February statement from Leonardo, the region shows ‘significant medium to long-term potential for a range of roles including EMS/SAR, security and disaster relief applications’.
The company said that the new facility reflects its ‘long-term commitment to the region and its customers and aligns to Leonardo’s Industrial Plan’s focus on stronger customer support services and proximity’.
