Science and Engineering Services has selected L-3 Communications to provide its Manned/Unmanned Teaming-eXpanded Capabilities (MUMT-X) system in support of  the US Army’s Apache helicopter programme. The initial value of the contract is around $11.9 million.

L-3 Communications’ MUMT-X communications suite is based on the MUMT-2 system. It includes multiband radio frequency equipment, a ROVER 6 modem, and a directional antenna that can relay multiple video streams back to the command center.

The new system will provide high-speed wideband video and data transmission and reception capabilities between the helicopter and unmanned systems.

L-3 Communications has commenced work on the project and expects to complete in August 2017.

John Mega, president, L-3 Communication Systems, said: ‘We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the US Army to provide Apache crews with a superior in-theater communications capability that will give them an important tactical advantage.

'This work is an ideal fit with our industry-leading expertise and strategy of developing mission-critical technologies that enable us to expand our business base while contributing to the army’s effectiveness in protecting our national security.’
