Z-19 sprouts radar and set to achieve exports

For the first time the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) publicly exhibited an example of its Z-19 attack helicopter fitted with a mast-mounted millimeter wave radar, while the first ever export sale of the Z-19E is anticipated. 

The aircraft with radar appearing at the 4th China Helicopter Expo in Tianjin from 14-17 September bore the markings of the Army Aviation Fenglei (Thunder) Aerobatic Team, which belongs to the 81st Brigade of the Central Theatre Command. 

This suggests the type is now operational within the PLA, although the helicopter’s actual serial number on the fuselage was covered up.
