CH-47F Block II makes maiden flight

29th March 2019 - 11:47 GMT | by Tim Martin in London

Boeing’s CH-47F Block II EMD Chinook has made its first flight at the company’s Philadelphia facility, marking a key milestone in a programme that has previously been at risk of cancellation.

The manufacturer used the exercise to test the aircraft’s hover abilities as well as ‘similarly basic manoeuvres,’ a company spokesperson explained to Shephard in a statement.

First flight was achieved one month before Boeing’s set target.

Missing from the aircraft were its new advanced rotor blades and an upgraded drivetrain – both of which are essential components of the Block II programme and designed to increase its lift.
