The bell tolls for Philippine helicopter deal

Bringing to an end one of the Philippines’ shortest ever military deals, the government has formally cancelled its contract for 16 Bell 412EPI helicopters for the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

The Philippine News Agency, a newswire service of the government, stated on 13 February that the Department of National Defense (DND) ‘on Tuesday issued a notice to Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) terminating the contract for the supply and delivery’ of the helicopters.

This was in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive issued on 9 February.

The contract was only announced on 6 February at the Singapore Airshow, meaning it lasted
