ATK will deliver its AAR-47 Missile Warning System with Hostile Fire Indication (HFI and Laser Warning) system to the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) under a contract announced on 8 May. The system will be installed on ROKA AH-1S helicopters.
The order will see ATK install and integrate the AAR-47 missile warning system as part of an upgrade programme to enhance the helicopter fleet’s capabilities. It also includes installation of the AN/ALE-47 countermeasure dispensing system.
The AAR-47 missile warning system is an electronic warfare system designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from surface-to-air threats. It integrates missile, laser and hostile fire threat warning into a single system, giving aircrew the ability to detect a wider range of aircraft threats, including smaller-calibre weapon fire and rocket propelled grenades, and quickly respond with countermeasures.
Mike Kahn, president, ATK Defense Group, said: ‘We are pleased that we were selected for this programme and we look forward to a long lasting relationship with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. This contract supports our focus on providing high-value to our customers, allowing ATK to have continued expansion of its aircraft survivability equipment across key international platforms.’
The AAR-47 missile warning system is widely deployed by the armed forces worldwide on aircraft including the C-5, C-17, C-130, P-3, CH-53/MH-53, CH-46, HH/SH-60, UH-60P, AH-1W/Z, UH-1N/Y and MV-22.
The Symetrics AN/ALE-47 CMDS is an Electronic Warfare self-protection suite designed to give combat aircrews enhanced survivability against surface-to-air and air-to-air missile threats in all environments, by dispensing chaff or flares, and is a complement to ATK's AAR-47.
