Rostec chief hails imminent arrival of first serial production Su-57
Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov announced on 7 December that Sukhoi will deliver its first serial production Su-57 multi-role fighter with first-stage AL-41F1 engine ‘literally before the end of the year’.
In remarks posted on the Rostec website, he added that ten Su-57s have already been provided to the Russian Aerospace Forces ‘from an experimental batch’ and a contract to provide 76 aircraft ‘is being fulfilled’.
Meanwhile, work continues on the second-stage Izdelie 30 engine for the Su-57. ‘Several prototypes have been manufactured, and are undergoing flight tests as part of the aircraft,’ Chemezov noted.
‘I hope that in 2022 the engines will be ready, “put on the wing” and we will start their serial production within a few years.’
Izdelie 30 is equipped with a new serrated nozzle that is designed to reduce the radar signature of the Su-57. Without this feature, notes Shephard Defence Insight, the Su-57 would not fully meet the criteria for a fifth-generation fighter.
