Pakistan settles on commercial MPA airframe
The Pakistan Navy (PN) has reportedly chosen an Embraer Lineage 1000E airframe as the platform on which to base its future long-range MPA. The Lineage 1000E is an ‘ultra-large’ business jet based on the Embraer 190 regional jet.
This is an interesting choice because, to Shephard’s knowledge, the Lineage 1000E has never served as an MPA before. Pakistan will call its future platform the Sea Sultan, these needed to replace its ageing P-3C Orion fleet of seven aircraft.
A third party will convert the standard airframe into a specialised patrol aircraft. That means significant modifications might be needed for
