AUVSI 2016: More lasers designators for Shadow

The US Army wants its unmanned aircraft fleet to have a greater role on the battlefield, including the vital job of laser designating targets so manned platforms – such as the AH-64 Apache – can unleash their guided munitions from safer distances but with the same effect.

The service is expected to award a contract this fiscal year for additional laser designators (LD) for the RQ-7B Shadow, competing the contract between two sources on an annual basis until FY18 when all funded units should have been procured.
