Saab will deliver its AUV62-AT anti-submarine warfare (ASW) training system to an unnamed customer under a contract announced on 1 March.

The AUV62-AT is an autonomous underwater vehicle system designed to train naval ASW forces. It is an acoustic target that mimics a submarine in a way that is compatible with a wide range of torpedo and ASW sonar systems, replacing the need to use a submarine in the role as a manoeuvring training target.

Deliveries to the customer will take place during 2017 and 2018.

Carl-Marcus Remén, sales director at business unit underwater systems within Saab's business area dynamics, said: 'This a further proof of AUV62-AT as the world leading system for ASW training.

'With the system the customer will be able to train in a more cost efficient and flexible way since the navy don't need to use own vital assets like submarines as ASW training targets. It ensures the entire ASW force can receive high quality training from start to finish.'
