I/ITSEC 2015: RUAG launches Spider positioning

A new global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that can be worn on a trainee’s leg has been launched by RUAG Defence.

The Spider mPos uses GNSS combined with gyroscopes and accelerometers to transmit the location of an individual with an accuracy of less than 0.5 metre.

The system has been developed for mobile military operations in urban terrain (MOUT) training to track the location of exercise participants.

Historically, MOUT training has required expensive tracking systems within buildings to monitor the location of individual soldiers but the company says that the new product greatly reduces the cost of such training as
