Indian Navy selects OTO Melara 127/64 LW guns
INDIA has selected OTO Melara's 127/64 LW Vulcano gun system to arm 13 Indian Navy (IN) frigates and destroyers.
The deal for the 127mm guns is worth an estimated USD243.5 million.
At present it is unclear which vessels will receive the guns, but seven Project 17A frigates (a follow-on to the Shivalik class) seem certain recipients.
Approval for four 8,000-ton Project 15B destroyers was given in 2011 and two remaining Kolkata-class Project 15A destroyers are under construction.
The tender required the first three guns be imported, while the remainder are to be licence-built by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)
