GRSE to supply vessels to Indian Navy
The Indian MoD has awarded a $331.34 million contract to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) to design, construct and supply four survey vessels for the Indian Navy.
The first ship will be delivered within 36 months and the remaining three at six-month intervals.
The vessels will be 110m in length with a displacement of 3,300t. They will be equipped with advanced hydrographic equipment and sensors, and a hangar to accommodate one Advanced Light Helicopter.
Capable of full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of ports and harbours, the vessels will also operate in approaches and navigational channels/routes, and will undertake surveys of maritime limits up to the exclusive economic zone/extended continental shelf.
The fleet will be deployed to collect oceanographic and geophysical data for defence applications as well as performing limited SAR, limited ocean research and operating as hospital ship/casualty holding ships.
The design will conform to the latest marine pollution standards of the International Maritime Organisation.
