US orders HMMWV engines
The DoD has awarded AM General a $44.1 million contract to provide the US Army with HMMWV diesel engines and containers.
Work on the contract, which was announced on 9 July, will be carried out in Indiana for completion by July 2023.
The HMMWV is powered by a turbocharged 6.5l V8 diesel engine. The vehicle supports more than 100 military missions – such as cargo and troop carriers, and TOW missile and special operations vehicles.
Its 15 configurations share a common engine, chassis and transmission, with 44 interchangeable parts that are used in more than one position.
