Indian howitzer production begins
The US Army’s Watervliet Arsenal has begun work on a $50 million order to manufacture 145 howitzer cannon systems for the Indian Army, the US Army announced on 14 February.
Under a foreign military sales contract announced in January 2017, the Arsenal will manufacture M776 155mm barrels and associated parts that will become an integral part of the M777 A2 lightweight howitzer that BAE Systems is supplying to India through the US Department of Defence.
The Arsenal will start shipping howitzer components in fiscal 2018 and cannon barrels by fiscal 2019.
