US Army reveals JLTV designators
The US Army has provided official numeric designators for the vehicle variants of the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
The JLTV programme has been developed on a foundation of four different mission package configurations: heavy guns carrier; utility; general purpose; and close combat weapons carrier.
The US Army has identified the newly assigned ‘M-designators’ for the four variants: M1278 - Heavy Guns Carrier; M1279 - Utility; M1280 - General Purpose; and M1281 - Close Combat Weapons Carrier.
This follows government acceptance of the first seven production model vehicles that took place in September.
Those vehicles will now ship to multiple test
