US Army Contracting Command has awarded Northrop Grumman company Alliant Techsystems Operations another modification in its long-running contract to provide XM1156 precision guidance kits for 155mm artillery projectiles.
Work on the latest modification is expected to be completed by 23 May 2024.
XM1156 guidance fuse technology is being used by the US Army and USMC to meet precision guidance requirements for 155mm projectiles.
In effect, the XM1156 precision guidance kit transforms ‘dumb’ artillery rounds into GPS-guided weapons that can reduce the standard artillery dispersion from 200m down to 30m.
The contract has undergone repeated modifications since it was awarded in February 2015.
