Insight: Are Ukraine's new vehicle plans really feasible?
Last month, Ukrainian industry announced ambitious plans to develop a brand-new IFV for the country's military that could contribute towards the force's modernisation and bolster local manufacturing.
But the project could run into difficulties as the Ukrainian MoD does not officially have a tracked IFV requirement, nor adequate funds to field in significant numbers.
The Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau, controlled by Ukroboronprom, revealed an all-new IFV design, known as the BMP-U, on 24 May that it said is intended to replace the Soviet-era BMP-1 tracked IFVs in the Ukrainian Land Forces' inventory.
