Ukraine tests Azovets
The Ukrainian MoD has started tests of its new Azovets tracked armoured fighting vehicle.
A spokesperson from the MoD said that initial supplies to the army may take place by the end of the year.
Initial details about the new vehicle emerged in 2015 as Ukraine sought to improvise with its existing armoured vehicle fleet to prepare them for counter-insurgency operations.
Azovets is the latest example of this effort. It is based on the Soviet-era T-64 tank chassis and has been designed for urban combat by engineers in the Ukraine Army’s Azov Regiment in cooperation with some military design bureaus.
