Switzerland orders KMW Leguan bridge layers
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and the Swiss Defence Procurement Agency signed a purchase contract on 15 December 2014 for twelve Leguan bridge layers on a Leopard 2 chassis.
The contract also covers associated training equipment and peripherals. With this purchase deal, Switzerland has become the 16th country to choose the Leguan system and the fourth to use the bridge layer for the Leopard 2 chassis variant.
The Leguan system can lay a single 26-metre bridge or two separate 14-metre bridges. It has a carrying capacity of around 70t (MLC 80). It can be used for civilian purposes as well, such as for the fast restoration of supply routes after natural catastrophes.
