South Korea places order for 8x8 air defence guns
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) in South Korea announced on 27 June that it has sealed a contract with Hanwha Defense for its 8x8 air defence system.
The deal is worth KRW250 billion ($207.7 million), though the number of self-propelled antiaircraft guns (SPAAG) ordered was not disclosed. However, Shephard previously reported that the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) requires some 270 wheeled SPAAGs.
The K808-based 8x8 chassis is manufactured by Hyundai Rotem, whereas the twin 30mm weapon system and other equipment is the responsibility of Hanwha Defense. Its official nomenclature has not been revealed yet.
