Eurosatory: Safran navigation systems for Griffon
Safran Electronics and Defense has received a contract to provide navigation systems for the Griffon armoured vehicles being delivered as part of France's Scorpion programme, it was announced on 13 June.
Safran will supply its Epsilon 10 navigation system for the vehicles. It will also provide a system based on hemispherical resonating gyros (HRG) for the artillery observation version (VOA) of the Griffon.
Griffon VOA artillery observation vehicles will be fitted with Safran’s Paseo optronic (electro-optical) system for target location, comprising an inertial navigator derived from the Sigma 20 family.
The Epsilon 10 navigation system operates in conjunction with a tactical coordination instrument. It gives multirole armoured vehicles autonomous engagement capability in the case of a GPS signal loss, jamming or other countermeasures.
The Scorpion programme will deliver 1,668 Griffon 6x6 VBMR multi-role armoured vehicles to the French army from 2018 to 2033.
