USMC squad modernisation includes large-scale rifle procurement
The USMC is continuing to improve its inventory by expanding the use of the H&K 5.56 mm x 45 M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle.
During this year, 8,000 units of this weapon will be delivered under the largest modernisation process in decades for the USMC.
This large-scale upgrade project is related to the Force Design 2030 vision, spearheaded by the USMC Commandant Gen David Berger, to redesign the corps so that it can meet the challenges of a new age of great power competition.
In addition to procurement of the M27, improvements in USMC capabilities include the acquisition of handguns
