France analyses ethical implications of creating ‘super soldiers’
Although it seems to be a story from Hollywood with characters like Captain America and Winter Soldier, France has analysed the ethical implications of creating ‘super soldiers’ with improved physical, perceptual, cognitive and psychological characteristics.
The Defence Ethics Committee of the French MoD published a report on 8 December on the ‘enhanced soldier’ (‘soldat augmenté’ in French), setting out principles and recommendations to be applied in research in this area.
The document was released by the MoD during the Digital Defence Innovation Forum 2020, as the first report from the Defence Ethics Committee on this topic.
