Pakistan trials new assault rifles
Pakistan is exploring options to replace its current inventory of 7.62mm G3 and Type 56 assault rifles. At the same time, facilities at the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) are being upgraded.
News of rifle trials emerged after the Pakistan Army chief of staff Gen. Raheel Sharif visited a POF facility in Wah on 15 March, with photographic images showing a collection of foreign rifles undergoing testing.
Those rifle models identified were the Beretta ARX-200, CZ 806 Bren 2, FN SCAR, Kalashnikov AK-103 and Zastava M21. Representatives from these companies were also in attendance during Sharif’s visit.
