Northrop to support GMLRS programme
Northrop Grumman has received a full rate production contract from Lockheed Martin to deliver insensitive munitions (IM) rocket motors for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) programme, the company announced on 17 September.
The rocket motors, which recently successfully completed flight testing, will upgrade the current GMLRS to include IM technology designed to enhance user safety and limit collateral damage without changing the missile's current design.
In autumn 2018, Northrop Grumman will open an expanded Tactical Motor Manufacturing Facility at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, specialising in IM rocket motor manufacturing. This new facility expansion will enable the company to meet the US Army’s increased demand for rocket motors.
