Iskander-M for Russian missile units
Missile units of the Russian land forces will be equipped with the Iskander-M short range ballistic missile system in 2019, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 1 January.
The missile system is capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 500km, including enemy missile launchers, anti-missile and air defence systems, aircraft and helicopters.
The Iskander-M systems will be transferred to the missile brigade of the Western Military District. The brigade set is made up of more than 50 units of equipment, including launchers, transporting-charging machines, command post vehicles, maintenance vehicles, as well as life-support vehicles.
The missile system is currently being modernised to improve its combat and operational characteristics.
