Malaysia seeks new small arms
Malaysia’s MoD issued five tenders for infantry support weapons for the Malaysian Army on 15 October. These tenders are restricted to Malaysian-registered companies.
The first tender called for 72 81mm mortars and associated fire control systems to equip mortar platoons in infantry battalions. Specifications ambiguously stated these platoons will be equipped with mortar transporters, though it is unclear whether a vehicle is part of this tender or a later one. Malaysia’s last known 81mm mortar purchase was in 2008 for 60 81mm mortars with MAS Zengrange Morfire fire control systems.
