Malaysia receives first batch of AV8 vehicles
The Malaysian Army has received the first 12 units of the AV8 8X8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle 25mm (IFV25) from DefTech. The delivery is a part of a programme to deliver 257 armoured vehicles to the Malaysian armed forces.
The vehicle, based on the FNSS-designed PARS 8x8 multi-purpose, multi-mission, wheeled armoured vehicle, is being manufactured by DefTech in Malaysia.
Thales is in charge of providing an integrated and scalable vehicle electronic architecture in the AV8 programme. It includes a wide range of Thales equipment such as communication, vetronics, sensors, command & contral, mortar, optronics that meet the rigorous operational performance criteria of the Malaysian Army.
In order to manage this programme in close cooperation with DefTech, Thales has set up a system integration laboratory in Malaysia managed by Thales Malaysia and its joint-venture, Sapura Thales Electronics.
