Komatsu withdraws from AFV production in Japan
Komatsu has decided to withdraw from the business of developing vehicles for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). According to Komatsu, it is too hard to achieve a profit and it therefore becomes difficult to maintain the current development and production regime.
Komatsu’s most recent revenue reached around JPY28 billion ($253 million). Komatsu is ranked seventh in terms of revenue for Japanese domestic defence companies.
It has developed many kinds of wheeled armoured vehicles such as the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV), Type 96 Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier (WAPC) and Command and Communication Vehicle.
