KMW selected for Norwegian Army vehicle simulators
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) will supply the Norwegian Army with the new Norwegian Combined Combat Simulator under a contract announced on 22 September. The company will also provide integrated logistics support for the system on site for five years, with options for ten more years.
The contract will see KMW deliver eight specially-designed simulator cabins in total; four for the new CV90 armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle, and four for the Leopard 2 A4NO Main Battle Tank.
The simulators will be equipped with an integrated 360° out-of-hatch projection system for the commander, and the Leopard cabins will have an additional mechanical weapon simulator for the main gun.
The simulator cabins are linked by a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)/High Level Architecture (HLA) network for training of joint operations. Eight additional multi-purpose-simulators which can adopt different roles during the simulation will enable the Norwegian Army to control combat groups, complete vehicle crews or other simulated entities with man-in-the-loop simulation. The HLA network also guarantees extension with other HLA compatible simulators.
