Improved Brazilian APCs on the way
A second tranche of Brazilian Army M113 armoured personnel carriers will be upgraded by BAE Systems in deal worth around $55 million.
Under an FMS contract awarded to Pennsylvania-based BAE Systems Combat Vehicles from the Pentagon on 16 July, a total of 236 vehicles are planned to be upgraded by the end of 2018.
The company is currently modernising an initial tranche of 150 M113B APCs to the newer M113A2 Mk1 (M113BR) specification for the Brazilian Army.
As part of this, the vehicle hulls, hatches and ramps are reused while other components such as the engines, transmissions and cooling systems
