IDEX 2015: Qnective building maritime C2 for Oman

A maritime communications network is being built for the Sultanate of Oman by Switzerland-based encryption software specialists Qnective and local partner Al-Madakhel.

The companies are designing, constructing and will operate the new network along with Frequentis, which is implementing the technical infrastructure.

Oman is in need of a secure maritime communications network following gaps identified following the increased piracy activity in its waters and the Horn of Africa region in recent years.

Based on the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) the local authorities will be able to obtain additional data on the identity, freight and itinerary of vessels
