Germany Army bolsters armoured capabilities
Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), has signed a 760-million euro contract with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) to upgrade 104 Leopard 2 MBTs for the Germany army. The tanks will be upgraded to the latest A7V standard.
The upgrade will increase the number and quality of Germany's Leopard 2 fleet. German defence minister Ursula von der Leyen had already announced in 2015 that the number of German MBTs would be increased to 328 in response to the Ukraine crisis.
