ERAP tests include solid fuel ramjet
Northrop Grumman has conducted multiple successful tests of its Solid Fuel Ramjet (SFRJ) tactical engine under Phase I of the XM1155 Extended-Range Artillery Projectile (ERAP) programme.
The tests validated gun-launched survivability and performance predictions, while the ramjet also demonstrated its potential of extending projectile range to more than 100km. This ‘is a significant increase compared to current fielded artillery projectiles’, Northrop Grumman claimed in a 30 November statement.
ERAP forms part of efforts to improve long-range precision fires, which is one of the main modernisation priorities for the US Army.
Northrop Grumman will continue tests at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, and in partnership with SPARC Research based in Warrenton, Virginia.
