Elbit Systems to deliver howitzers to IDF
Elbit Systems has received a $125 million contract from the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD) to deliver fully automatic self-propelled howitzer gun systems for the Israeli Defense Force, the company announced on 27 March.
The contract also includes the supply of training simulators and will be performed over a period of 12 years.
The new automatic howitzer gun system will be capable of automatic loading and laying. According to the mission, the gun system will automatically select the required projectile, propellant and fuze, load them and lay the gun to optimally engage targets.
It is expected that further parts of the programme, under an additional contract to the company, will be performed by various US companies including Elbit Systems of America, subject to completion of the receipt of applicable governmental approvals for the US content.
