Egypt requests 120mm tank rounds
The US State Department has made a determination approving a potential foreign military sale of M831A1 rounds, M865 rounds and Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilised Discarding Sabot with Tracer (APFSDS-T) rounds to Egypt, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 17 September.
In a package worth $99 million, Egypt has requested 46,000 M831A1 120mm Target Practice–Tracer and M865 120mm Target Practice Cone Stabilised Discarding Sabot rounds, and 10,000 120mm Kinetic Energy-Tungsten (KE-W) A4 APFSDS-T rounds.
The request also includes 4,500 120mm Insensitive Munitions High Explosive with Tracer (IM HE-T) tank rounds, support and test equipment, component improvement programme and repair, other related elements of logistical and programme support.
Egypt will use the 120mm IM HE-T cartridges for its M1A1 tank fleet, and the target practice rounds for training purposes. The APFSDS-T rounds will replace older model 120mm KE-W, KE-W Al, and KE-W A2 ammunition to
maintain a strategic munitions inventory for its M1A1 tank fleet.
If the sale goes ahead, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems will be the prime contractor.More from Land Warfare
