DSEI 2013: New Tungsten penetrator unveiled

A new 120mm Tungsten penetrator tank ammunition round has been developed by US munitions manufacturer ATK and is being displayed at the DSEI exhibition in London.

The new round is a Kinetic Energy Tungsten (KET) variant of the US Army’s M829A3 round, which uses depleted uranium (DU), but ATK has transitioned the round away from the DU over to KET.

Jarrod Krull, communications manager for ATK, told Shephard that since July the company has completed demonstration testing of the round and secured approval from the US government to seek international partners to purchase the round.
