DSEI 2013: Thales chases HMD contract

Thales used the DSEI exhibition in London to display its new Scorpion helmet-mounted display (HMD), which it acquired earlier in 2013 by purchasing the HMD division of helmet manufacturer Gentex.

Already in use on the F-16, A-10 and AC-130W, the Scorpion is being further developed by Thales Visionix Inc (TVI) for the US Army under the Common Helmet Mounted Display (CHMD) programme.

Part of the army’s Air Soldier Program, the CHMD effort will be fielded across all army helicopter types apart from the Apache. It aims to reduce the weight and bulk of the current system and increase solider situational
