The Power Team consortium, which consists of General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada), Marshall Canada, Mercedes Benz, Soframe and Manac, has been formally awarded Canada’s LVM requirement, a CA$2.8 billion (US$1.8 billion) contract for 1,500 trucks.
The selection was announced earlier in January this year but the formal award was only announced by Canada’s minister of national defence Bill Blair on 29 May.
The first contract in the LVM project will be for vehicle acquisition to provide more than 1,000 light trucks and approximately 500 heavy trucks valued at CA$1.5 billion. There was a second contract for in-service support for a total potential value of CA$1.08 billion over 25 years.
GDLS–Canada will act as prime integrator and Marshall will produce a range of interchangeable light and heavy 10ft and 20ft mission modules capable of being mounted onto Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks. These modules will provide the common vehicle chassis across all configurations.
In May 2012, the German Army bought 110 Zetros vehicles to meet its requirement for an armoured logistics vehicle able to carry a 5t payload. Since then, 250 vehicles have been supplied to the Ukrainian government.
