On the brink: Russia completes military exercises

Russia’s army has completed a set of military exercises on the Ukrainian border and its forces remain on standby.

The exercises that ran from 26 February to 3 March were aimed at checking the operational readiness of the Western and Central military districts.

The exercises were also designed to prove new systems and the interoperability of different force elements and were performed under the direct instruction of President Vladimir Putin.

Up to 150,000 troops, 90 aircraft, 120 helicopters, 880 tanks have been involved with about 80 ships in the Black Sea.

Among the participants are the Pskov Division of Airborne
