AUSA 2016: Abrams prototype testing underway

Prototypes of the upgraded variants of the Abrams main tank are being tested by the US Army and General Dynamics Land Systems is looking forward to full rate production. 

The company expects to begin production in early 2017 following a contract award for the Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Package version 3 (SEPv3) in 2015. 

‘We have seven porotypes in government testing at the moment and two of them with General Dynamics for…assessment,’ said Mike Peck, business development director at general dynamics.

Originally there was intended to be nine prototypes but this has been reduced to seven for various reasons. The
