AUSA 2014: GD-OTS refines medium machine gun design

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) has improved its Lightweight Medium Machine Gun (LWMMG) design.

Displayed at the AUSA Annual exhibition in Washington DC the LWMMG was developed for the special operations community about two years ago to eliminate the gap between 7.62mm and .50 Caliber weapons by employing a .338 Norma Magnum cartridge that provides lethality beyond 1,700 m.

According to Dave Stouffer, GD-OTS senior business development manager for medium calibre ammunition and weapons, the latest design has dropped the gun weight from the prototype 24.5 lb down to approximately 22 lbs.
