The US has supplied a batch of 640 new military vehicles to the Logistics Command of the Afghan National Army (ANA), the Afghanistan MoD announced on 24 February via social media.
The delivery comprised 403 HMMWVs, 43 Ford Ranger vehicles, 23 ambulances and 170 motorcycles. They will be delivered to regional corps in the ANA.
‘These vehicles and equipment will be used effectively to maintain security’ by ensuring the ANA has modern capabilities, said Abdullah Raqibi, deputy minister of technology and logistics in the Afghan MoD.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, Afghanistan is the single biggest recipient of HMMWVs under the FMS programme, with the latest delivery bringing the ANA inventory to more than 15,500.
