AEL Sistemas to supply unmanned turrets to Brazilian Army
Elbit Systems’ Brazilian subsidiary, AEL Sistemas, has won a contract to supply Unmanned Turrets to the Brazilian Army for its Iveco 6x6 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) as part of the Guarani project.
The company was issued an initial production order valued at $15 million. This follows the January 2011 announcement by Elbit Systems of the award of a framework contract valued at approximately $260 million for the supply of UT30 BR 30mm Unmanned Turrets to the Brazilian Army’s land forces.
The Brazilian Army is carrying out a programme to renew its APC fleet under a deal with Iveco signed in December 2009. The Guarani vehicle is being developed in a number of configurations and will form part of a 2,044 strong fleet of vehicles, of which the Guarani APC will form the backbone.
Deliveries for the Unmanned Turrets is expected to be complete within two years.
