The US Navy is another step closer to rectifying a gap in its fleet structure following the axing of the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates as the US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has issued the final RfP that will deliver the first 10 hulls in the FFG(X) programme.
Between the two-variant LCS programme and the Flight III Arleigh Burke’s, a gap has yawned for a US Navy that desperately needs cheaper hulls yet still be able to operate in a contested environment.
Issued on 20 June the RfP will likely see proposals from General Dynamics, Fincantieri Marinette Marine,
