US Navy names DDG 128

The US Navy will name incoming Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, DDG 128, as USS Ted Stevens, the navy announced on 4 January.

The ship is being constructed by Huntington Ingalls Industries at its Ingalls shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The 509ft long vessel will have a beam length of 59ft and will be able to operate at speeds in excess of 30kt. Ted Stevens will be capable of simultaneously fighting air, surface and subsurface threats. The ship will contain offensive and defensive weapons to support maritime warfare including integrated air and missile defence.
