Thales details PKR Corvette mission systems contract
Thales will supply a full mission systems suite for the two Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) Sigma Class Corvette vessels under construction for the Indonesian Navy by Dutch shipyard Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
In addition to delivering and installing the latest version of its TACTICOS Combat Management System announced in September at DSEI, Thales will supply the SMART-S Mk2 surveillance radar; STIR 1.2 Mk2 EO fire control system; KINGKLIP sonar; LINK-Y datalink, as well as its naval communication and navigation systems.
The agreement includes a high level of local industry involvement, with Thales increasing its existing cooperation with Indonesian industry. Local company PT LEN Industri will develop part of the Combat Management System software suite.
In addition to software development, Thales said it will continue to involve the local industry in service support and will continue to develop its long-term partnership with the Indonesian industry on future programmes in both the military and civil sectors.
This contract brings the total number of SMART-S Mk2 radar systems sold to over 50. The 3D multibeam radar operates in S-band and is optimised for medium-to-long-range (250-km range) surveillance and target designation in littoral environments. It was designed to match the full performance of surface to air missiles, such as the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile.
The work schedule will see Thales begin deliveries of the equipment at the end of 2014, with the programme completing in 2017.
